ICKENHAM CHURCH NEWS
REMEMBRANCE DAY TIMES AND DATES
The short annual service of Remembrance will take place around the flagpole in St. Giles‰ Church churchyard at 10.55 a.m. on Tuesday 11th November. If the weather is inclement the service will take place inside the church. We hope you will come.
If you are out and about, at that time, see if you can stop your busy life for just a minute, or two, to reflect upon those who gave their lives for their country and for your freedom. If you are working, or studying, at school or college, can you persuade that institution‰s management to hold a period of silence at 11 a.m.? Will your workplace, or office, cease its activity for just 120 seconds?
Both the U.R.C. and St. Giles‰ Church will be observing a two-minute period of silence during services on Sunday 9th November. The U.R.C. Parade Service begins at 10.50 a.m. instead of the usual 11 a.m. to accommodate this.
To the delight of many, I‰m pleased to announce that local building company, Site Building Control Limited, (SBCL), are close to finalising an agreement with the London Borough of Hillingdon, to renovate the Village Pump.
The project, sponsored entirely by SBCL, has been the subject of local interest for several months.
‹At last we are nearing an agreement and hope that work will commence in November, for completion the following month,Š said Jo Kitchen of Customer Relations.
‹SBCL has been based in the village for over three years and our director, Gary Martin, has always intended to support local projects, where he and his team could make a ëhands-on‰ difference.Š
She went on to say, ‹Having achieved the quality accreditation, ISO 9000, at our initial assessment, we knew the importance of meeting the criteria local authorities consider when appointing local contractors, even when there is no cost involved!Š
SBC has recently completed a Sports Hall storage extension and a Special Needs classroom at Vyners School.

NB from Editor: Many thanks, in advance, to SBC. Hopefully we will have pictures, in our Christmas edition, of the project in progress, and any possible visits to the works, by local dignitaries. In the meantime the Pump will be boarded up for the work to commence and a photographic, and video, record will be taken throughout the renovation process.
DROP-IN FOR THE BEREAVED. Third Monday of each month. St.Giles‰ Church Hall, 2 to 3.30 p.m. A friendly, informal opportunity for a chat, over a cup of tea, with other bereaved people and pastoral visitors.ć The next meeting is Monday 17th November (also Monday 15th December). Just come along, or ring the Rectory (622970) if you would like to talk to someone first.
