Help Needed with ICN Deliveries
In recent months delivering ICN has become quite taxing. A
number of stalwarts have either become infirm, or moved away,
and we have had to dig deep into our reserve list to find replacement
volunteers to take on permanent, rather than standby, rounds.
Some of our standbys already have their own round.
We need to top up the list with new volunteers, so please
call the Editor if you are prepared to help. There are three
possible jobs. These are: a) delivering through letter boxes
in a local road b) delivering bundles of magazines to those who
will then put them through letter boxes c) both jobs.
There are a few standby volunteers who have not yet been called
upon and the reason for this is that either we try to tie up
a round close where the volunteer lives, or the volunteer stands
in only for a named individual. We need people willing to go
anywhere in the village, and to act as a replacement for anyone.
If you are prepared to help us telephone 01895 632442 and
leave your name and address and contact number. It could be your
road next needing a volunteer!

The Children's Society
LONDON BRIDGES WALK 2004
Last year's event raised a staggering £80,000 for The
Children's Society. This year it takes place on Saturday 18th
September. It is expected that this year's walk will be even
bigger than in 2003 and there will be new competitions and additions
to the route.
The 5 mile walk will start on the South Thames Embankment
outside Tate Modern then move west to Westminster Bridge. The
improved 10 mile hike includes a loop around the City. To make
the day even more enjoyable the Society is working in association
with the Mayor of London's Thames Festival, which takes place
the same weekend.
This year children's television favourites, Noddy and friends,
will make a 'star' appearance and be cheering you on as you begin
the walk.
For more information, and a registration form, call 0845 3001128.

Ickenham Woman Runs For England
Story courtesy Hillingdon Athletics Newsletter
Gavin Collett
With
the pressure of her finals at Cambridge University, Julia Bleasdale
apparently put her running aside, so we can wait with bated breath
for what she can achieve when she puts her mind to it.
Awarded female athlete of the match at the annual Varsity
competition where she achieved the Olympic trial qualifying time
in the 800m. Julia debuted over 5000m for Middlesex at the CAU
UK Inter Counties Championships. Another hugely impressive win
and another Olympic trials qualifying time as well as a new record for
Hillingdon Athletics Club.
Third place in the prestigious Blaydon Road Race was followed
by a South of England title in the 1500m at Watford, holding
off UK international steeplechaser Jo Ankier in a tight finish.
Julia was then rewarded with her first England vest at
an international match in Cork on 3rd July. Amongst a field
of World-class athletes she ran bravely early on but faded
over the final lap to clock a time just off her personal best.
She said 'I gave it all I had got and really enjoyed the
racing experience! I cannot wait for another opportunity
to represent the country'.
Graduating with a first class engineering degree from Cambridge
University, Julia has now been awarded a scholarship to study
Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art in London.
