ST GILES’ ‘POSADA’

As part of our celebrations of Advent, St Giles’ Church is, again, organising a modern POSADA (this is the Spanish word for ‘inn’).

Each day during Advent, small figures of Mary and Joseph will travel round Ickenham from one home to another, returning to church on Christmas Eve. This will help us to think about making room for Jesus in our homes and in our lives, particularly recalling how there was no room for Mary and Joseph in the inn.

ICKENHAM U.R.C. CAREERS SUPPORT CENTRE
NOW OPEN

Ickenham U.R.C. is currently operating a support group for people who are unemployed, or looking for help. This initiative comes at a time when organised support for people seeking work is patchy. The Centre gives free advice to local people and offers practical support including training and advice on such topics as CV writing and updating, completing job applications, job-search methods and other related topics.

It is providing a rolling programme of training, and advice, relating to these subjects over a six-week programme.

The centre is open Each Monday between 2 p.m. – 4 p.m., is staffed by a qualified careers adviser, and is supported by volunteers

So if you are in need some help, or advice, please come along.

GARDEN CENTRE UPDATE

The Hillingdon Council North Planning Committee meeting of Tuesday 2nd November turned down the recent application to demolish Pete Cottage and build flats on the site. More than 75 people wrote to our Planning Officers and hundreds signed a petition of opposition to the plan. In answer to a question about enforcing the untidy site notice that was served on the freeholder, the Chairman of the Committee said the Enforcement Officer will provide an update at the next meeting.

ICKENHAM FESTIVAL MARQUEE SPACE?

We're looking for some storage space, in or around Ickenham, to store some Marquees and a few other items that have been accumulated by the Festival Committee. Half a garage would be excellent. We can't afford to pay anything but knowing you're doing your bit for the Festival must be reward enough!
If you can help call David Edington on 01895 672783 or David Millen on 01895 637932

ICKENHAM FESTIVE COMMUNITY NIGHT
Friday 10th December 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. in the centre and around the Village

Because local traders found it hard to manage this event, it was taken over by the Festival of Ickenham Committee in 2003. This year the aim is to make the Night bigger and better. The Village will be decorated with trees and lights, including the tall fir by the pond. Many shops will be open late with Christmas hospitality, and there will be stalls, entertainments and ‘Santa’s Grotto’ in the Village Hall. It is anticipated, also, that a combined St Giles’/U.R.C. choir will be in attendance to sing Carols accompanied by the Salvation Army. Steam train rides will run alongside the London and Home Counties shop.

One may track all other forthcoming Festival events, on the website address www.ickenhamfestival.co.uk or link to it through ICNOnline. For more information, or to offer help, contact Doug Neilson on 01895 633217 or email douglas.neilson@btinternet.com
