PARKINSON’S DISEASE SOCIETY THRILLED WITH ICKENHAM’S SUPPORT

Dennis and Barbara Critchett and all the Members and Committee of the Parkinsons Disease Society (HiIlingdon Branch) send our heartfelt thanks to all our friends and supporters who attended our recent Coffee Morning at the Village Hall. The proceeds exceeded our wildest expectations and we have arrived at the total of £1023.49. You must all have eaten a lot of cake that weekend, and purchased a lot of Books and Bric-a-Brac. Everything we could not sell we sent along to the Harlington Hospice Shop, when they said they would take all we could offer. Marvellous, we cleared the Hall.

The whole morning will remain a highlight for everyone concerned with our cause. We have the lovely people of Ickenham, and surrounding areas, to thank for our success, and we are all so grateful.

We found new members and others, who were members and had never attended our meetings, have said they will attend now - all Parkinson’s patients of course. We held out money boxes at Sainsbury’s last Saturday and made £387 - that is our year’s fund raising over I hope, but it has all been great fun - everyone got caught up in it.

NB The Hillingdon Branch is trying to raise sufficient money to employ a full-time specialist nurse to help local Parkinson’s sufferers.

SWAKELEYS HOUSE is open on Sunday 3rd July.

ICN EDITOR IS PRESENTED WITH THE SWAKELEYS SHIELD

On Sunday, 15th May ICN Editor David Crane was presented during the 9.45 a.m. Service at St Giles’ Church, with The Swakeleys Shield for Service to the Community. The Shield is presented each year by the Festival of Ickenham Committee (usually at the Annual Festival Dance) to a local resident who is acknowledged to have made a major contribution to the enhancement of the community spirit here in Ickenham. David’s editorship of the Ickenham Church News on behalf of both St Giles’ and the URC Churches has proved to be all encompassing of the many groups’ and organisations’ activities and covers many events within our community as well as those of our two churches. Full use is made of the ICN internet website as well as the printed publication. David is also a Deputy Churchwarden at St Giles’ and a member of the Ickenham Conservation Panel. This award goes some way to show Ickenham’s appreciation of his hard work in our community.
