FROM THE URC REGISTERS
Cremations at Breakspear Crematorium
June 7th Marjorie Ward, aged 99 (Taken by Revd Adrian Guthrie after service in the U.R.C.)
Marjorie died on Saturday 28th May at Parkfield House Nursing Home and had been a church member for many years. Until very recently Marjorie had been living at the Buntings but was too frail and housebound to attend worship. Nevertheless she took a keen interest in news from her many friends at the URC.
ICKENHAM CHURCHES CHRISTIAN AID WEEK RESULT
I write with my grateful thanks to all those people who gave up their time to distribute and collect money given by the people of Ickenham. As a result, we have been able to forward a record amount to headquarters.
The total this year was £7,938, up an overall 11% from £7139.37 given last year, added to which is a valuable sum of £1,008 tax relief at 28+%, gained from those who took the trouble to fill in the slip attached to the envelopes. This makes a Grand Total of £8,946 in all, and I would hope that all taxpayers will do the same next year.
Those who need to be especially thanked, are those people of Ickenham who gave their money; those already congratulated earlier, but above all the delegates who were responsible for opening the envelopes, counting the monies, and displaying the amounts collected, together with a note of the numbers in their section who filled in the forms for tax relief, which resulted in a magnificent sum of £8,946 - just short of £9,000.
Well done to everybody concerned.
Ron Hewson and Bernard Pearce
THE CHILDRENS SOCIETY LONDON BRIDGES WALK 2005
SATURDAY 17TH SEPTEMBER
The Children's Society's London Bridges walk is a great day out for all the family and it's growing in popularity year on year. So why not get your trainers on and join us on this year's NEW route?
The walk starts at Tate Modern, at the southern entrance. Drum Jam will be heading the day's entertainment and will open the event by leading walkers across the Millennium Bridge. Children's favourite Dora the Explorer, from Nickleodeon TV will be at the Tate throughout the day for photographs and to cheer on walkers and Saturday 17th September also sees the start of the Thames Festival weekend, so the South Bank will be awash with food and craft stalls, and entertainment
Walkers choose between a 5 or 10 mile route and cross several of London's bridges taking in the sights of the London Eye, Houses of Parliament and St Pauls Cathedral to name but a few. There's also a quiz to test your knowledge, one for adults and a special Dora the Explorer quiz for all our younger participants. It is both a fun and educational day out and the route is pushchair and wheelchair friendly so anyone can take part. Entertainment is planned throughout the day, from musical activities to face painting, and all participants receive a FREE goody bag, T-Shirt and medal.
With lots to see and do it's a great atmosphere on the day, so please encourage friends, family and colleagues to take part too. Your efforts will help us to fund our work with the country's most vulnerable children and young people. Our projects work directly with 50,000 children each year, but our research and campaigning create positive change for thousands more. We work where the need is greatest, currently in four key areas; young refugees; children at risk on the streets; children in trouble with the law and disabled children.
If you would like a registration form, and leaflet, or have any queries about London Bridges Walk, please call 0845 300 1128. We hope to see you on the day.
Kind regards,
Rose Levien (Events Coordinator)
CIVIC CEREMONY AT ST GILES CHURCH

Pentecost afternoon at 3 p.m. on Sunday 15th May saw St Giles Church host a Civic Ceremony on behalf of the outgoing Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr. David Payne. A very large number of guests were invited from all walks of life, and representing many of the voluntary groups in the Borough. Hillingdons Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Rhodes was present. In addition several Mayors from nearby Boroughs joined the service and attended the reception in the Church Hall. Our re-elected Member of Parliament, John Randall was amongst the congregation along with his wife, and a large number of former Mayors of Hillingdon. Quite how everyone was seated, and afterwards fitted into the Church Hall, remains a mystery!
The Mayors Chaplain, the Revd. Simon Pothen, vicar of St John the Baptist, Pinner, presented the Service address, and subsequent prayer. His theme was Voluntary Service in the Community. St Giles Church rector designate, the Revd. Adrian Guthrie administered the blessing.
Harpist, Salo Satu provided a Welsh flavour to the service as did the hymn Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer.

St Giles Church Choir sang Lead me Lord, lead me in Thy righteousness by Samuel Wesley.
The service collection of over £550 added to the impressive total raised by the Mayor during his term of office and all will go towards Soundbeam, which is a new programme of music education for children with special needs and a transport incubator for Hillingdon Hospital to use with very sick babies.
As the various Mayors, their spouses, and the Deputy Mayor processed to the Church Hall they were helped on their way by the charming hand bell ringers from St John the Baptist, Pinner. Inside the Hall the Mayor and Mayoress welcomed all their guests and the harpist played throughout the reception.
It was a wonderful reception and the St Giles Church Social Committee were given a vote of warm thanks by the Mayor and applauded by all present.
