During July and August we will pray for the following roads: 3rd July – Windrush Close. 10th July – Witney Close. 17th July – Aylsham Drive. 24th July – Cranston Close. 31st July – Fincham Close. 7th August – Halsam Close. 14th August – Heacham Avenue. 21st August – Melville Close. 28th August – Narborough Close.
If you live in one of these roads why not join us at our 8 a.m. or 9.45 a.m. services. You will most welcome.

BREAKSPEAR SCHOOLS CYCLE TO SCHOOL DAY
THURSDAY 7TH JULY

In conjunction with their Safe Routes to School initiative Breakspear Infant and Junior Schools will be holding a Cycle to School Day on Thursday 7th July.

Congested roads during the “school run” period mean that the school does not at present encourage cycling to school although this is a long-term aim. It does, nevertheless, recognise the significant benefits to improved health amongst young people that cycling can bring.

To promote the ongoing programme of work in this area it has therefore been decided to invite the children to cycle to school for one day only this summer. With the assistance of WPC Jo Allen and her colleagues of the Metropolitan Police, two or three groups of children and parents will meet up at different points around the village and form cycle trains to ride en-masse along selected routes to school. The routes have been chosen to be as car free as possible and to cause the least disruption to other road users. Special arrangements have been made to accommodate the pupils’ cycles whilst they are in class and Mark Chapple and his team from local cycle shop Bikewise will be on hand at the school to offer technical advice and assistance to the riders.

Those readers who will be driving around Ickenham between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. or at school leaving time around 3:30 pm are requested to take particular care should they encounter one of the groups of children on their cycles. Safe Routes Co-ordinator Kevin Malam says “we would greatly appreciate the assistance of all drivers in the vicinity to avoid the area near the school, helping us to make this a safe and fun day for the children.”

The children will enter the school by the rear gate and drivers are in particular requested to try to avoid Hoylake Crescent to the rear of the school during the above times.

VILLAGE POST OFFICE

At the time of going to press we had no news on whether the application has been successful to house our Village Post Office in Mace Convenience Express. We hope this may come about soon and are very grateful indeed to proprietor, Manjit Dhillon, for his community spirit, willingness to house this essential service, his very hard work completing the mound of application forms at short notice, and preparing a suitable business plan.
