PICNIC IN THE PARK 2005
Bring your own picnic!
Bring a chair or a rug!
Meet at midday by the swings in the park!

These were the directions for the first 'Picnic in the Park' held on 18th September for members of St Giles' Church and friends.
Approximately 65 people responded to the invitation on a fine but chilly Sunday. Following a fun quiz, some of the younger people played parachute games. Then two mixed-age teams were formed for an energetic and highly competitive game of rounders, amid shouts of encouragement and laughter! Meanwhile football and children's croquet were also being enjoyed, while those favouring more sedentary activity chatted to new and old friends.
So next year when you see the notice in ICN giving details of Picnic in the Park 2006, do come; bring your own picnic and join us in Swakeleys Park for a few hours of fun and companionship.

HOSPITAL COMMUNION SERVICES 2005
More Volunteers needed urgently
The next Sunday when volunteers are needed to collect patients from wards for Communion services in the hospital chapel is: Hillingdon Hospital on Sunday 6th November. More dates will be published in future months. This small service is very much appreciated by patients who have no family available to help them. To continue this service we need to supplement our regular team with more volunteers to provide cover for unavoidable absences. Anyone who is prepared to spend a couple of hours on occasional Sunday mornings, please contact Alan Grove on 020 8868 9220.
WEA LECTURE SUPPER EVENING
Many readers will recollect that in the September issue of ICN The Ruislip and Uxbridge Branch of the WEA (Workers' Educational Association) announced details of the 2005/06 courses being held at the Compass Theatre. The courses this year are particularly diverse and the enrolments have been particularly healthy.
This year the WEA will be holding its annual 'Lecture Supper Evening' at Ickenham Village Hall on Saturday 12th November at 18:30. It is always a very enjoyable evening and this year promises to be very special, as the guest speaker will be the popular local lecturer Eileen Bowlt, who will be speaking about 'Manor Farm the Heart of Medieval Ruislip'. Eileen says about her lecture that, The Manor Farm Site has been Ruislip's administrative centre since late Saxon times. Earthworks and buildings from every historical period will be brought to life and explained as well as looking at the exciting future plans for the site.
The evening will consist of three parts, firstly the AGM of the WEA Ruislip and Uxbridge Branch, which will be followed by a light supper prepared by the committee members and friends. The evening will conclude with Eileen Bowlt's lecture. Everybody is welcome, whether a WEA class member or not. Tickets are £8 each and may be obtained from any of the current classes at the Compass Theatre or by contacting Caroline Field, the Branch Chairman (01923-824922) or Brian Rose, the Branch Secretary (01895-230948).
For those of you who have not joined a WEA course so far this year, it is not too late. There are still a few places left on some of the courses and remember the first class you attend may be taken as a 'Free Taster'.
