TALKING ICN FOR THE BLIND

We managed to distribute, on 6th March, copies of the first Talking ICN to those requesting them. Along with the recording of the magazine was sent a second tape, which held all the annual advertisements found in the publication. The system, having been set up, and found to work, will now continue for each edition thanks to the kindness of quite a number of volunteers.

SUCCESSFUL YEAR FOR THE WEA.

It has been a particularly successful year for the Ruislip and Uxbridge Branch of the WEA (Workers’ Educational Association), with a significant increase in student numbers. As we approach the end of the study year it seems appropriate to make public the plans for the new courses starting in September.

Since the start of the year the committee has been busy putting together what they believe is another varied and stimulating course programme. There are some of the old favourites together with a number of new courses and for the first time in many years it is hoped to put on an evening course.

The preview programme below is not completely finalised so there may be some small changes before September.

Monday:    Morning –  ‘Music’. Afternoon – ‘Bird Watching’.

Tuesday:    Morning –  ‘Archaeology of the Holy Land’. Afternoon – ‘Art of Spain’.

Wednesday:   Morning –  ‘Novels of the Southern Hemisphere’. Afternoon – ‘Current Affairs’ and ‘Our History Since Time Began’.

Thursday:   Morning – ‘Botany’. Afternoon – ‘Poetry’.  Evening – ‘Contemporary Theatre’.

Please pass on the new programme details to any friends or acquaintances that you may have. As in previous years all students can attend the first lesson on any course free of charge, just to make sure that it is to their liking. So why not come along in September, with a friend, to try any of the courses that take your fancy!

The WEA brochure containing full details of all the courses arranged by the local branches will be available in local libraries and bookshops from early August. If you are not able to find a brochure or want more details about the courses above then please contact Robert Hardman on 01895-632774.
