The next in the interesting series of Men’s Breakfasts will be taking place on Saturday 14th July at 8.30am in the URC Church Hall. The speaker will be Donald Woodhouse, a retired Church Army Captain. Tickets cost £2, covering the cost of a continental breakfast, and are available from Don Gwilt on 01895 673704.
On the Sundays during the school holidays, we are holding special services for all ages at 9.45am. The services will include communion, but will follow a much shorter liturgy which is aimed to help young and old, and everyone in between, to engage in worship.
We’re taking time out from our normal pattern at 9.45am to worship as a family together over the summer and the theme of the services will be “To boldly go...”

We will be looking at the exciting first century adventures from the Acts of the Apostles which tell of the stories of the Apostle Paul as he travelled to cities around the Mediterranean with a message as important today as it was then. Everyone is welcome!
SATURDAY SALES AT THE URC
The Summer Forecourt Sale was well attended on a dry and sunny morning (contrary to the worrying forecast the day before!) and raised £459, so many thanks to all who donated items or supported us on the day. The Traidcraft stall of Fairtrade goods made another £50, helping farmers in developing countries.
We'll be at it again for the Late Summer Sale on Saturday 8th September and we look forward to seeing you then: 10am to 12 noon, admission FREE. We'll be selling books, bric-a-brac, DVDs, CDs, etc. along with boxed games and jigsaws. If you are able to donate any such items, please bring them to the church on Friday 7th September between 6pm and 8pm, or phone Richard Piper on 01895 634348 if you need them to be picked up.
And before that there will be a quality book stall (including “Observer” books) at the Coffee Morning on Saturday 7th July between 10am and 12 noon. The usual delicious home made cakes will also be available so please don't miss it.
Work is proceeding to schedule on the reconstruction of the Swakeleys Road bridge over the River Pinn. The traffic diversions have worked well with comparatively little disruption. Meanwhile, contractors J Browne Construction have dammed and diverted the river through a 4ft diameter pipe whilst they excavated the road and the river bed. They then needed to install nine, 30 ton sections of concrete boxes, each about 23ft by 6ft high inside (see picture, left). These have to be bedded down, sealed and surfaced. The whole project, costing about £500,000, is due to be completed by the end of October. Site Manager Michael O’Dea said, “The biggest challenge is controlling the river, followed by traffic management”.
