A TRIBUTE TO DEREK KNEALE

In recognition of the extraordinary amount of time and effort that Derek, during his lifetime, had devoted to St Giles’ and, in particular to the Church Hall, it has been decided to rename the latter in his honour.  Accordingly, after the 9.45am service on February 24th, Adrian will re-dedicate the Hall to be known as “The Derek Kneale Hall”.

TO MY VALENTINE

Why do we send Valentine cards? One story concerns the Roman emperor Claudius who decided that Roman men didn’t want to leave their families to join the army so he banned all marriages. St Valentine was a priest who rebelled by marrying couples in secret. He was found out and sentenced to prison and then death. He fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and sent her a final letter signed “from your Valentine”, a catchy phrase which we have been pleased to use ever since.

ICN HAS THE ANSWERS

The ICN team were in fine form at the Ickenham Festival 2007 Quiz Night.  Competing against 14 other eager teams, ICN came second to the Wayfarers and won £50 which was gratefully received by the Parkinson’s Disease Society.

A BIG THANK YOU

...to all who supported or helped with fundraising for Christian Aid throughout 2007!

In addition to the Christian Aid Week Collection in May, many people have been working hard for Christian Aid during the rest of the year too: the Ploughman's Lunches held at the URC raised £610, the Frugal Lunch held at St. Giles' Church on Good Friday another £151 and the newspaper collection in the recycling bin at St. Martin's car park in Ruislip raised £559.  From these various areas of fundraising, a cheque for the grand sum of £1,250 was sent to Christian Aid at the end of 2007.

Sadly the recycling bins at St. Martin's car park are being removed so we shall lose that revenue source, but please continue to give your support in other ways in 2008.

AND TO OUR ADVERTISERS

The ICN team would like to thank all those who advertise in the magazine or on our website each month.  Many of these are local businesses who have long been associated with ICN and we thank them for their continued support.  We welcome too, those whose adverts are appearing for the first time.  We wish them all a busy and successful 2008.

Thanks too, go to the clubs, societies and individuals who make donations towards our running costs, and who are acknowledged each month in our Parish Pump section.  Together you make it possible for us to continue to produce and deliver the magazine to every home in Ickenham.
