CHARLOTTE’S DREAM TO BE RESTORED
Ickenham’s famous pump is being restored back to its original glory! Despite extensive renovation four years ago, the woodwork in particular is in a sad state and Charlotte Gell would weep if she could see it today. Apart from Ickenham Cottages (Almshouses) and much else, this remarkable lady left directions in her will for a pump to be built to enable villagers to have fresh water. The weather vane surmounting the structure incorporates the letter ‘G’ for Gell. The Council is funding the work at a cost exceeding £28,000.
STOP & SHOP PARKING SCHEME
Vehicles double-parked
in Swakeleys Road
Following the overwhelming response to our residents’ survey, we successfully petitioned Cllr Burrows at the Council on 20th February for a “Stop & Shop” parking scheme to be implemented in Ickenham village centre. Ninety percent of those residents who responded to the survey were in favour of such a scheme, with 80% keen to see echelon parking re-introduced into the village instead of parallel parking. This could discourage double-parking outside shops.
In light of the support for a 20mph zone along the shops part of Swakeleys Road (71%), a further petition has been submitted to Cllr Burrows. As ICN goes to print, this is due to be heard on 19th March. The outcome will be posted on our website at www.ickenhamresidents.co.uk. The Council will now consider the exact details of the “Stop & Shop” scheme.
