An instrumental group is being formed from scratch to accompany the music at the Churches’ Open Air Service on Sunday 15th June, 11.15am. If you play a musical instrument, at about Grade 5 or above and would like to take part, please call Peter Williams on 01895 678569 or email him at pjwill209@btinternet.com with your details and instrument played. Music will be available ahead of time, and the group will then gather for a rehearsal before the service, at 10.15am in Swakeleys Grounds.
Among the seventy greeting cards that Betty and Don Portsmouth received was one from the Queen! She congratulated them on reaching that rare event of a 60 year, Diamond Wedding Anniversary. Members of St Giles’, Betty and Don met during the war and were married in 1948 (the last time Britain hosted the Olympics). Don was a member of the Hillingdon Choral Society and Betty still belongs to the music group of the Townswomen’s Guild. We wish them well for their Platinum Anniversary!
Congratulations to Hazel Screen, who ran the recent London Marathon on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Despite pulling her calf muscle on the day before the race, Hazel was determined to run, and completed the 26 mile course in an impressive 3 hours 56 minutes. In doing so, she raised around £2,100 for her chosen charity, and she would like to thank all those who sponsored her and urged her on with words of encouragement.
If you are inspired to give it a go next year, mark 26th April 2009 in your diaries and get started on that training!
...and a brood of chicks, six piglets, a herd of goats, 16 ducks and a beehive! That’s what the URC Junior Church managed to buy from Present Aid when, with your help, they raised a grand total of £205 at their Coffee Morning on 10th May. Thanks to all the clever people who made the cakes, and to everyone who came along.
Receipt is acknowledged, with grateful thanks, for donations towards the cost of ICN, from:
Mrs Mary Langham, Betty and Don Portsmouth, Anon via Mrs Gwilt, Concerts at St Lawrence Eastcote.
Please note that copy for the combined July / August edition of ICN should be with the team by 12 noon on 13th June.
