KATRINA BIJOWSKI

We regret to record the death of Katrina Bijowski on 25th October.  Earlier this year Katrina was awarded the Swakeleys Shield.  For more than a decade she has been actively involved in raising funds to assist children with special needs and their families to enjoy a better life.  Katrina formed the charity ‘Karers 4 Kidz’ with the help of her husband Chris and friend Chris Nixon and, despite suffering serious illness for the past eighteen months, had continued to strive for that cause and been principally instrumental in raising an impressive £250,000.

Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time.

HERE COME THE GIRLS!

Do you recognise this picture?  It’s a still from this year’s Boots Christmas advert, where the girls take over and ‘make Christmas happen’ – yes, ladies, you know what we mean!

But this was October in Ickenham, when a film crew set up shop for the weekend in Eleanor Grove, Rectory Way, and – the scene of the main filming – in Charlton Close.  Although this area of Ickenham is regularly used for filming, it is usually far smaller in scale than this.  Watch out for the result on your TV this month.

BERT NEEDS HELP – CAN YOU PROVIDE IT?

Bert is in his late 70s and lives in a care home in Hillingdon.  Recently he has received a letter from his mobile phone provider.  Bert is having difficulty understanding the new contract being offered to him.  He is growing more concerned and worried that he may lose his main means of contact with his friends.

Could you help him and others like him in varying situations?  If interested then please contact Neil Jackson at RRICHH (Relatives of Residents In Care Homes in Hillingdon) on 020 8756 3040 or email him on njackson@ageukhillingdon.org.uk.

RRICHH is a support group working with
Age UK Hillingdon and Hillingdon Carers.

CHRISTMAS STARTED EARLY AT THE URC

The URC’s Christmas Fayre in November is one of Santa’s early outings of the year.  Here he is, taking a break from meeting, greeting and drawing the raffle at the event, pictured with his helpful elf and some of the young stall holders who worked so hard to make the day a success.

Thanks of course, are due to all the helpers, to those who donated or made items for the event, and also to the Ickenham folk who came along in their usual numbers; the crowd was lively – a real ‘buzz’ in the hall – and despite these recession hit times, an impressive total in excess of £2,600 was raised on the day.

Once again, local traders, including main sponsor Austin Residential, supported us very well indeed.  Let’s get behind them in the run up to Christmas and beyond.

TREE OF REMEMBRANCE
CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL, ST GILES’
Sat 10th December 10am – 4pm
Sun 11th December 11am – 11.45am

Following the death of a loved one, Christmas can bring intense feelings of loss and loneliness.  If you want to remember someone dear to you, visit the Tree of Remembrance in St Giles’ Church on Saturday 10th December between 10am and 4pm or on Sunday 11th December between 11am and 11.45am.  There you can write the person’s name and / or a message on a star to be hung on the tree.

The stars will be taken down from the tree at 11.45am on 11th December and placed on the altar in St John’s Chapel where they will stay until after Christmas.  During this time we will give thanks to God for those named on the stars and pray for those who are missing them.

Please note that the Tree of Remembrance will not be available on Friday 9th December, during the Ickenham Festive Evening.
