It’s not been the greatest summer weather-wise, but that couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the crowds of children, leaders and helpers at this year’s Holiday Club. And with 40 years of this grand Ickenham institution to celebrate, we thought it was worthy of another colour edition of ICN. Can you see yourself, or your friends and family in any of the pictures?
We were pleased to report on the good progress made by Nikki Summerfield and her friend Melanie Cox since Nikki donated one of her kidneys to Melanie last year. Nikki was successfully nominated for this year’s Fenjal Friendship Award, her prize being a pampering spa break for two at Ragdale Hall. She and Melanie have just returned from this break: excellent timing, as Nikki, the Secretary of the Ickenham Festival team, could relax a little after the recent busy Festival Week.
There is an article too on Vyners Swing Band, now 20 years old, and – keeping with this musical theme – a call from two local choirs for new voices.
It’s also the time of year when local societies restart their programme of events. Our page six listing lets you know what’s going on. And on page five there are details of the new WEA courses (Workers’ Educational Association) that are starting later this month at the Compass Theatre.
