Christian Aid Week occurs again in May, this year from the 11th to the 17th of the month. A group of around 120 volunteers will deliver the familiar red envelopes to all the homes in Ickenham, and will then return a few days later to collect them again, hopefully filled with your donations to this worthy cause. The newsletter’s lead article tells of some of the projects this collection funds, concerned with the provision of fresh water to people in developing countries. In his article, Bernie recalls his own experiences of living where water is scarce, and elsewhere there is news of the ‘Art for Rukiga’ exhibition and auction in aid of the CLICK Rukiga water project. This exhibition and sale of donated paintings, sculptures and photographs takes place in the URC from Wed 14th to Sat 17th May (the auction being on the Saturday.)
Earlier in the month, the annual URC fundraising auction takes place, on 3rd May, with a wide range of interesting items up for grabs. The day starts with a plant and book sale on the church forecourt before the auction viewing begins. So why not make a day of it?
There are reports on some of the Easter events, and it is good to learn that Vyners Head Girl Ashleigh Bairstow has reached her fundraising target ahead of her Project Trust gap year in Uganda. Well done to the Vyners Swing Band for helping towards that at their recent Spring Concert.
Adrian gives a rundown of some of the events organised jointly by the two churches here in the Village, including the churches’ contribution to the forthcoming Ickenham Festival. Festival programmes will go on sale during May. Make sure you pick up one to get full details of all that will be happening from Sat 7 June to Sun 15 June. Further details too, in next month’s ICN.
Read about these, and other articles in the May edition, by clicking on ‘This Month’s Newsletter’ on the Menu Bar at the top of the page. And from there, you can reach all the regular features too. Do check out the Photo News section: this features the Gazette’s recent coverage on CLICK Rukiga, and Alan Noad’s photo of St Giles’ in less than typical Easter weather.
Articles for the next issue of ICN need to be with the team by 12 noon on 13th May.
